Set Up Custom Nameservers
Posted by Dan M. on 23 September 2007 10:07 AM

HostNine allows you to configure your own nameservers. Generally, personal nameservers are only needed for reseller accounts. If you have a standard (non-reseller) account and want custom nameservers you must request them, either at signup or by emailing Resellers can set up their own nameservers by following these steps:
Note: editing your DNS zones can greatly change or break your website. Be careful!

  1. Log in to WHM

  2. Select Edit a DNS Zone in the DNS Functions menu on the left

  3. Select the domain you want to add nameservers for (we're using '' for our purposes)

  4. Click Edit

  5. Add the following items, replacing italicized items with their proper values:

    • || 14400 || NS ||
      Note: don't forget the "." after ".com". This is important!

    • || 14400 || NS ||

    • ns1 || 14400 || A || SERVER IP 1

    • ns2 || 14400 || A || SERVER IP 2

  6. Click Save

  7. Go to your domain registrar and register the nameservers to point to the server's two nameserver IP addresses and allow 24-72 hours for DNS to propagate

That should be it! You received your servers nameserver IPs in your welcome email. Contact support if you need further assistance.

Tip! You can also achieve this by using cPanel to set up your custom nameservers.
